Transformer Devastator

Transfomer DevastatorWhat's the big deal with Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Devastator? How about 80 feet tall on all fours or up to 120 feet on 2 legs! Look folks, this is the super giant in giant robots.

When you have a big job like destroying a 200-foot pyramid, you need to bring out the big guns; in this case you need the raw power of a massive, colossal robot that can bring the pain. Let's face it, a 1-foot kitchen-bot won't make a dent. You need a robot with some skills and tools that uniquely qualify him for this massive undertaking.

Devastator About To Bring It!

What makes Devastator such a formidable adversary?

He's a Combiner Class - Construction Transformer, i.e. he's made up of six (6) construction robots that are based on giant-sized construction vehicles. He is the largest of the Constructicons.

Other interesting ROTF trivia factoids:

Devastator is so complex that he and all of his parts took massive computing power to render.

A single IMAX shot in the movie (df250, Devastator and all of his component parts) would have taken almost 3 years to render on a top-of-the-line home PC running nonstop. If you rendered the entire movie on a modern home PC, you would have had to start the renders 16,000 years ago (when cave paintings like the Hall of Bulls were being made) to finish for this year's premiere.

According to the animators at ILM, the combined robot Devastator is made out of 52,632 pieces (more than 10 times the number of individual parts found in an ordinary car), 11,716,127 polygons and 6,467 textures, and took up 32 gigabytes of computer space. If his components were laid end to end they would reach 13.84 miles, and if you had all the gold ever mined in the history of man, you could build a little more than half of him. In the first movie, Prime has 10,000 parts, which is puny by comparison!

It took 140 terabytes to process the CGI for all the robots in this film.

One ILM animator's computer, while rendering Devastator, reportedly overheated and its internal circuitry melted.

From the roster of Transformers in this film, Michael Bay prefers the Twins; Megan Fox's favorite Transformer is Devastator; and Shia LaBeouf's favorite Transformer is Scalpel.

Clearly you need a big robot for a big job.

So, how can you relive your favorite movie moments?

1. Make sure everyone in the house has his/her own copy of the movie. That way you can watch and re-watch on your PC with your headset whenever you have some extra time and you won't bother anyone else.
a. Get the Blu Ray 2-disc edition.
b. Get the standard 2-disc DVD edition.

2. Get the Devastator Action Figure. This is great for anyone's collection. Devastator Action Figure

3. Have a ton of fun getting shot at by playing the ROTF game by Activision. NOTE: there are versions for PS, PS2, and Windows, but they do not give a high-quality game experience, and therefore we did not list them.
a. Get the X-Box 360.
b. Get the Play Station 3.
c. Get the Nintendo Wii.
d. Get the Nintendo DS ROTF Autobots.
e. Get the Nintendo DS ROTF Decepticons.

4. Here's a great ROTF fan video showing Devastator transforming in the movie and some game shots of Devastator giving Bumblebee a run for his money:

Well there you have it! ROTF is a non-stop thrill ride for all of you adrenaline junkies. Forget looking for complicated plots - just go for the killer action.

Hope the next installment has even more action. See 'ya then.
